Stretch marks

These are irregular areas of skin that resemble bands, stripes or lines and are seen when a person grows, gains weight rapidly or has certain conditions or diseases.

All stretch marks can be improved! And the most recent ones, those that still have a wine-red coloration, can usually be cured.

Considerations

Stretch marks (striae gravidarum) can appear when there is rapid stretching of the skin and are often associated with the enlargement of the abdomen during pregnancy. It can also occur in children who have rapidly become obese. They can also occur in boys and girls during the rapid growth spurt of puberty. The most common location of stretch marks is on the breasts, hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen and flanks.

Stretch marks appear as reddish, shiny, thin, parallel lines of skin that eventually become whitish and scar-like. Stretch marks may be slightly deep and have a different texture than normal skin.

They can also occur as a result of abnormal collagen formation or as a result of medications or chemicals that interfere with collagen formation. Similarly, they may be associated with prolonged use of cortisone compounds, diabetes, Cushing’s disease and the postpartum period.

Causes:

  • Síndrome de Ehlers-Danlos
  • Síndrome de Cushing.
  • Embarazo
  • Pubertad
  • obesidad
  • Uso excesivo de cremas para la piel a base de cortisona

Avoiding rapid weight gain helps reduce stretch marks caused by obesity.

Treatment

In-office, including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, mesotherapy, biostimulation with platelet-rich plasma and IPL. The combined techniques have a high success rate in the treatment of red stretch marks, being able to achieve an ad-integrum recovery of the skin in more than 90% of the cases.

Home support with scrub, creams and acids is also important during treatment.

It is important to provide information and work on prevention in order to avoid the appearance or rapid detection and treatment of our adolescent children, pregnant women and special situations, such as prolonged corticotherapy.
